# Count work only when a claim or deliverable exists

Counting a dispatch only when a claim or deliverable exists caught a worker reporting working while its claim had been refused and its pane sat parked.

From the [Learned the hard way](../index.md#learned) section of [The Muse Field Guide](../index.md).

## The claim

That delegated work should be verified by claims and read-backs, never by the worker's status text.

## What happened

A dispatched worker pane reported "working" while it had no lane identity and its claim had been refused. Nothing about the status was true in the way that mattered. The fix was verified the same way the rule prescribes: by the claim landing, not by the pane saying so.

## Where this came from

Pane launch recipes and claim checks exist because a "working" status proved nothing, three times, on workers parked at approval dialogs.
